The Island Gold Coast reborn

The reborn Islander Resort is posing some serious competition for hotels around Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast. Shaking off the past, The Island Gold Coast has now positioned itself as a must-see boutique hotel in Surfers.

Last month, my sister and I travelled up from Melbourne to a much needed sun-filled break up north. As I searched through the pages of standardised chain hotels and was about to settle on one, I came across The Island Gold Coast and being the Instagram obsessed person that I am - I did a quick search @theislandgoldcoast, I was extremely disappointed that I hadn’t found it sooner. With that in mind with a couple of clicks on my laptop, I secured our 3-night stay at The Island Coast. The total for the stay was about $578.00.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by a friendly team at reception who gave us directions on how to park the car, where breakfast was served and handed us over our room key. Now I must stop here because it's the little things that add up when you stay at a hotel - this key was one of the best parts with its asymmetrical pink and blue it was hard not to love the key that unlocked paradise.

Our room was absolutely gorgeous, we selected The Island Deluxe King Room. It had everything you needed for a short stay including a small kitchenette, a couch, tv, bathroom (complete with little extras like a toothbrush and toothpaste - I loved this because I always seem to forget these things when I stay somewhere) and a side view of the ocean.

The location was ideal, situated right in the heart of Surfers. This made it easy to Uber around to the surrounding suburbs at night and explore the nightlife in the area. While we didn’t get to try the Rooftop Bar, due to time constraints, we heard from many that it was definitely a place to be a night.

Breakfast was included each morning with an a la carte selection including Waffles, smashed avo, breakfast burrito and vegetarian breakfast as well as coffee and freshly squeezed juices. The team were very hospitable, allowing for small requests and changes to our meals with no hesitation. The coffee was excellent and the waffles were our favourite, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside with the perfect amount of ice cream.

The hotel is a 4 star and it achieves just that. With its casual charm, modern design and friendly staff it will be my go-to destination when I return to the Gold Coast.
